7 Reasons Why We Go Out on Thursday Nights

As I sit at my desk on this perfectly average Pre-Friday, I can't help but wonder about why I am going out to consume alcohol this evening. Sure, it's my friend's birthday, but why have I gone out on so many Thursdays before this one and will I continue to go out on future Thursdays? I asked around and picked a few of my favorite theories to share. Feel free to add yours in the comments.

1. Work stress peaks on Thursdays.

You deserve to let off a little steam after you work four whole days in a row (or whatever your work schedule is). Even if you're not employed, adulting is hard — you put on pants, pay taxes, etc. I think you've earned a night out for brushing your teeth regularly and taking out your trash, dammit. Drink to the sweet elixir of youth or at least take a break from regretting that you didn't major in computer science for the night.

2. People love alliterations.

Thirsty Thursday has great mouth feel, no? Thursdays have a good rep as a strong club night and are also the nights when you can make eyes at someone (or just make eyes at the jelly fish) at NightLife at Cal Academy.

3. Why be hungover during precious weekend time when you could be hungover at work?

Weekends are a time for city survival stuff like doing your laundry or dishes and catching up on TV. Who needs a hangover fucking with their weekend self care routine? And I hate to break the code of mediocre employees everywhere, but we're usually phoning it in on Fridays anyway.

4. We've convinced ourselves that bars are less crowded on Thursdays.

It does seem like Fridays and Saturdays bring more out of towners to your favorite neighborhood spots and that can be a real downer. When push comes to shove, pushing and shoving is bullshit and I'll have none of it.

5. There's a higher chance your friends won't have plans.

Look, I don't want my friends to die alone because I selfishly demanded that they never go on dates when I want to hang out, but it's a sacrifice I could be ok with. It's easier to get people to agree to go out on Thursdays after work when you're not competing with as many date nights or whatever other plans people make on Friday nights so they don't have to spend time thinking about the frivolousness of their lives.

6. You (maybe) have more energy on Thursdays.

Finishing up work at the end of a long week is draining and can leave you just wanting to go home and vibrate away your problems and/or order Chinese. On Thursdays, you still foolishly believe you can have (and drink) it all.

7. It's good for your wallet.

Some bar hours aren't happy on the weekends AND in a crazy, don't-think-about-it-too-long way, it feels like you have more money on Thursdays than Fridays in so far as Thursdays come before Fridays. Shhhh ... leave your reasoning out of this.
