San Francisco, get ready to stand in yet another line that's definitely worth the wait — the Halal Guys are coming to the Bay Area.
If you don’t know, the Halal Guys are infamous in New York City for serving some of the best food on the planet: chicken, lettuce, gyro meat, and “white sauce" heaped on pita bread or over rice. Originally a food cart, the Halal Guys now operate two brick-and-mortar shops: one in the East Village and one on the Upper West Side. It can be the hottest day in New York or the coldest — doesn't matter, because at least half a dozen hungry people will be waiting for halal food. Thankfully, Bay Area weather means waiting here won't be much of a burden.
There’s no word yet on how many shops will open exactly, just that 30 are slated for the Bay Area and Las Vegas. If you live in the Los Angeles area, no worries — 50 are going to open there too. According to Eater SF, the franchise that secured the deal with the Halal Guys hopes to open all these stores by next February. While that seems like a long time away, trust me, this is one food even I’ll gladly forgo a burrito to wait for.
We can only hope the Halal Guys outposts here will stay open as late as their East Coast brethren, which leave the lights on until 4 a.m. No matter what, San Francisco should be feeling pretty blessed right now. After all, it’s just another reason to never move to New York.
