BART: Bring Back This ’70s Atari Kiosk

When BART was sleek and new and Atari was a video game system that people played without nostalgia, this happened in the Powell Street BART station: there was, once upon a time, a six paneled Atari kiosk inside of it.

Just think about that station now you guys. They’re remodeling Powell St. BART, the anecdotally worst San Francisco BART stop, and they had better include something this good.

How and why did we recall this, you ask? “The Internet” has a weird, selective memory and kind of spat this one back up, but we cannot emphasize enough that this really happened. It was in the '70s.

We want more info, especially about how and why this was phased out. But we do know that people played from six sides, that it offered 90 seconds of play, and BART and Atari split the coinage. Games included Pong, LeMans, Tank, Space Race, and Lemans.

It was probably fun and now we can’t have nice things.
