Want to beat this upcoming weekend's second heatwave but haven’t made a friend with a pool? The secret to cooling off is in your local library. Oh and it’s totally free.
I have always been a firm believer that having fun isn’t hard when you’ve got a library card. For me, libraries have always been like the Wonka Factory, a magical place filled with all the things I love best. I used to sit in the library every recess avoiding sports and mean girls.
But the library is not just for books or hiding from bullies anymore. The SF Public library system also allows you to rent out pool and museum passes. The SFPL buys bulk Family Passes, which give you free admission to cool places like the California Academy of Sciences or public pools all around the city.
All you have to do is go to your local library and check out a pass. It’s a good idea to call the branch in advance and ask what passes they have available because sometimes the good ones get snatched up by hordes of stay-at-home moms who use their Borg-like hive mind to score the best deals.
Just don’t tell any bullies about this. I don’t want to have to avoid them at the pool too.
