If you're planning on chilling out in Alamo Square this weekend, you may have to make new plans. In case you forgot, it's Bay to Breakers on Sunday, and this year, the SFPD and the Recreation and Parks Department have decided to close the southern portion of the park – which includes the playground, the tennis courts, and the dog play area – in preparation for the event. Hoodline reported yesterday that this portion of Alamo Square will be fenced off from Friday until Monday.
As Hoodline points out, Alamo Square borders the race route along Hayes Street, and is a natural stopping point for many participants. "Runners" would often converge here to rest, drink more, adjust their costumes, puke, etc. With the park closure, you may see more sit-lie action on neighborhood sidewalks this Sunday than usual.
