It's impossible to miss Rare Device's fun and welcoming storefront on Divis. This neighborhood gem was one of the awesome local businesses partnered with us at our recent Divisadero Microhood and since they are such a colorful hub of design-y good vibes, we decided to sit down with gallery and shop owner, Giselle Gyalzen to talk about her delightful business.

So what do you guys focus on here?

We are a design gift store and gallery. We work with a lot of independent and local artists, designers, and makers although we carry brands from all over the world.

Why did you open the shop?

I've always wanted to open a shop to have a place to collect things that I love. When the opportunity came to buy the store from the previous owners, Rena Tom and Lisa Congdon, I had to jump on it! It just felt right at that time and I was correct. I love this new venture!

What’s a good tip that a regular would give about your shop?

Shop our greeting card selection. It's extensive and we always bring in new lines.

Anything else people should know about you or the shop?

We usually have the opening reception for the artist featured in our gallery every first Friday. Come by to look at art, peruse our goods, and meet new people.

Who else do you love in this neighborhood?

Bi-Rite is my go to lunch spot for quick on-the-go meals. We love Perish Trust, The Mill for coffee and toast, and I also visit Yerba Buena Community Acupuncture regularly.
