If you've ever asked, "Where can I get a cup of coffee around here?" the You Are Here project out of MIT has created a rainbow colored answer. The group used Google Places API and Google Distance Matrix API to map a ton of independently-owned coffee shops around San Francisco as well as the "walking shed community around it" (or, in other words, how far people come from to drink there).
It's a very visually pleasing piece of work, and shows very clearly that most of our locally owned cafes are clustered in the Mission, SOMA, and the Financial District. But I was sad to see some of my personal favorites didn't make the map: Trouble in the Outer Sunset and Stanza in the Haight.
