In September 2011, a four-alarm fire ravaged the block of Fillmore at Haight Street and several businesses were shuttered due to the damage. One of those shops was the San Francisco outpost of Three Twins Ice Cream, which has been closed for more than two years. But Three Twins fans like me got some good news last week: the Lower Haight location has reopened! And the new location has some new upgrades, including offering MORE ice cream (12 choices, rather than 8; and it'll now have ice cream sandwiches!). The shop's soft opening was last Tuesday, but this afternoon at 3 p.m. Three Twins will celebrate with an official grand reopening celebration.
Three Twins founder Neal Gottleib will be at the shop today giving out samples of the new 2014 flavors: Land of Milk and Honey, Brownie Batter Chunk, and an organic version of its Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough.
Mayor Ed Lee was originally slated to be at the celebration, but due to a scheduling conflict, he will not be there. In his absence, if your name is Ed Lee and you attend the event today, you'll receive three free pints of ice cream. Just remember to bring a valid ID to prove it!
