Vintage Photos of Vacations in San Francisco

Looking through old photo albums, I came across these pics of my family visiting San Francisco in the early '80s, when I was about four or five years old. Judging from my expressions, the toddler me was nonplussed by the Golden Gate Bridge – and all the clam chowder in bread bowls we surely ate that day. Still, it makes me smile to see this photograph of mini me in the city I ended up in as an adult. (And check out those stylin' duds I was wearing.) These images made me want to see other people's family vacation photos from San Francisco, so I put a call out to TBI readers for pictures taken in the '90s or earlier. Here are the awesome pics and memories that came in.

"I grew up South Bay. This photo is of me from 1992. " – Mallory Lucille
"Here's a photo of my family in 1976, near the GG Bridge. I'm in the pink sweater, in the front. I grew up in LA and this photo was taken a year after my family moved from Vietnam to the U.S. After arriving here, I never got on a plane again until I was 17. My family drove everywhere for our vacations." – Mai Le
"I moved to San Francisco last year, and as I was packing I found this photo of me. I think it was taken in 1983 on a trip with my parents and grandparents. I had just gotten a new camera for Christmas and was taking a shot of the beautiful bridge, which I had never seen before."
– Jennie Hake
"This is of my mom and me. Look at her mom jeans!" – Myleen Hollero
"Here's a picture of chubby little me, clutching a new Cabbage Patch doll, in front of the Golden Gate bridge in 1986 or 1987." – Sonya Abrams
"I remember the wind being cool and refreshing. My family had just come from visiting Stanford, where my sister and I were told we must attend in the future." – Joshua Chan
"In front of Laughing Sal at Playland-at-the-Beach, c. 1974" – Chelle Lindahl; photo by Dennis O'Rorke
"Here's a picture of my grandfather visiting SF in the early '70s from Peru." – Desiree Tavera
"My mom and dad visited SF for their anniversary in 1995. It was the first time they'd gone on a trip without me and my brother. My dad came back and reported that it was 'a cool city.'" – Jessica Saia
