The Will Brown gallery had me at "bouncy castle." The 24th St. art space has earned a solid rep in this city for pushing the boundaries of conceptual and installation art, and now they've upped the bar with their Bauhaus Baunshaus, a grown-ass bounce house for grown-ass people.
The Will Brown curators worked on this bit of inflatable fun for tonight's 30th anniversary party for the Capp Street Project, which has become internationally known for being the first to offer installation artists a place to create and exhibit new work. Since 1983, more than 100 different artists have found inspiration in its residency program. It's been owned by the Wattis Institute since '98.
So tonight, it's all about getting bouncy. Not only in that Bauhaus Baunshaus, but also to old soul, girl group, and proto-punk garage tunes spun by DJ Erica “Wanna Hang Out?” Johnson. And then Blue Bottle pastry chef Leah Rosenberg is cooking up something fun for the evening too.
The celebration goes down tonight from 8 p.m. until midnight at 350 Kansas St. All the details are here. Be sure to wear some good socks.
