We're Becoming the City that Wakes Up Looking Like We're Going Back to Bed

As if San Francisco wasn’t already known for being cozy-forward when it comes to fashion, a local company called YamStreet has raised over $18,000 on a $15,000 goal on an active Kickstarter campaign to release a product called Urban Pajama Pants into the wild. Soon, people will be able to strut outside in bedwear-reminiscent plaid trousers or shorts and feel completely accepted by society for turning sleepwear into streetwear.

Of course, this isn’t the city’s first local attempt to bring ultra-snuggly clothes into the world; do note our “Pantsapreneur” JJ O’Brien from last season’s Bachelorette, who runs a slouch-friendly clothing company called Hemhaus, or the “business onesie” known as the Suitsy. Our city certainly loves to be outfitted for that seamless transition between bed, on-the-town … and back to bed again.

The Urban Pajama Pants differ from typical PJs in that they’re built from more durable fabric, and they have a fold up reflective ankle cuff and back pocket if you’re riding a bike (of course, because SF). Otherwise, they’re pretty much pajamas. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want a ladies’ version of the pants (how about some pastels, guys?), or that I hadn’t once rocked a pajama top as high fashion eveningwear (don’t judge, it was the ‘90s). But I am also deeply afraid that in this hoodie-, onesie-, and pajamas-friendly city, we’re just cementing San Francisco’s reputation for being frumpy when it comes to style. Then again, we’re all too comfortable lounging in our jammies to care.
