It's been a rough couple of months for Boston. The city's seasonal snowfall accumulation hovers at 100.2 inches (close to the record of 107), and temperatures have been just this side of cryogenic for weeks. But Beantown is as resourceful as it is resilient, hence a novel new service: Ship Snow, Yo.
For $19.99, Ship Snow will deliver a 16.9 oz water bottle hand-packed with Boston's finest snow anywhere in the country. And if you need your snow fix immediately (because, say, you're trying to recreate this scene from Fargo), you can overnight six pounds of it in a Styrofoam container for $89.
Is this for real? Of course it is, says the website. Kyle Waring, who masterminded the bizarre concept, says he attempts to freeze the snow via dry ice (and even sends a photo of what it looked like before shipment), but he cautions that the snow will most likely arrive melted. That hasn't deterred people from placing 133 snow orders, and in drought-stricken California air-mailed bottles of water might not be a crazy idea.
Sample testimonials from the site: "Even though my snow arrived as water, it was the best damn water I've ever had" and "This is the best snow I've ever touched! Deliciously fresh and contagiously good, mixes great in coffee."
Waring recently touted his product on the Weather Channel, stating, “We came up with just a funny, clever way of getting rid of it [snow].” Meanwhile, Tahoe is still reporting sunny skies and 53 degrees.
