You're Not Crazy, Muni Was Slower Last Year

Ah, Muni! I've died a thousand deaths waiting for you, and still I'll live to wait another day. Yesterday SF Gate reported on a city controller's report that shows Muni was significantly late between October and December 2014. The report indicates Muni showed up at unscheduled times approximately 56 percent of the time. Granted, this means that sometimes the bus arrived early, but everyone in the city knows an early Muni is as rare as a baby pigeon.

Also, it's kind of sad when public transportation has worse odds than Sex Panther.

The study says this percentage of late arrivals is "a 5.8-point drop over the same time the year before, and an 18-point drop from 2010."

Paul Rose, a spokesperson for Muni, blamed the usual suspects for delays — congested streets, shortage of drivers — but also said there are around "60 vehicle breakdowns a day." Rose also hinted about Muni expansions slated for April. A monorail? Bullet trains? Fancy pants double deckers with built-in beer taps? A girl can dream.

But for all of my ranting, I know Muni is way better than some other major cities' transit services (cough, LA, cough). Besides, what am I going to do instead, buy a car? Muni, I wish I knew how to quit you.
