6 Reasons The Presidio Is The Most Romantic Spot For Valentine's Day

The Presidio is easily one of the most romantic parts of SF. Think about it: the enchanting fog, the misty woods, the dramatic views, the rich history of the buildings. It also tends to be far less crowded on special occasions than other neighborhoods, so you and your boo have the perfect spot to hide away that isn't on your couch watching reruns.

For a Very … Ahem … Active Valentine’s Day

Countless studies show that couples who exercise together communicate better. Here are some ways to get your heart pumping in more ways than one come February 14.

Lovers’ Lane

This hike is short and moderate but offers stunning views. You and your partner can enjoy a leisurely stroll among cypress and eucalyptus trees. There is even a footbridge from the 1800s along the trail. What’s more romantic than a footbridge? OK, maybe a gazebo, but a footbridge is definitely up there.

Valentine's Day Sock Hop

Perhaps you and your boo have a slightly funkier form of exercise in mind. Head over to the Presidio Officers’ Club to participate in a free V-Day sock hop. Don your ’50s best and get ready to jitterbug the night away. The event also includes cocktails inspired by the Mad Men generation. Who knows, after an evening like this your date just might agree to go steady.

Batteries to Bluffs Hike

This hike is low impact but highly interesting. You can take a romantic walk (only 0.7 miles) around the many stairs and cliffs that overlook the ocean. On your way you’ll encounter historical gun batteries and you can take some killer couple selfies with a great view of the Golden Gate Bridge. Not to be pushy or anything, but this would be a great spot for a proposal.

And When You Two Get Hungry for More …

Prix Fixe Dinners

The fixed price menus at Arguello and The Commissary are not to be missed. The Commissary offers a three-course dinner for $70 that features fresh local seafood and decadent desserts. Arguello's menu has a Latin feel and for only $55 you can get three courses of south-of-the border-inspired mains and desserts.

And for Dessert, Feed Your Heart

You can watch a movie with your partner any day of the year, but Valentine's Day calls for some special entertainment ; Shakespeare's Sonnets. No matter who you think really wrote plays under his name, it’s undeniable that Shakespeare knows romance. Spend the evening at the Presidio Officers’ Club listening to readings of the bard's most beloved sonnets and your partner is certain to get in the mood for love.

Inn at the Presidio

So what if you live nearby? So what if you really should spend more time with the kids or the dogs or the artisanal succulents at home? It’s Valentine’s Day, treat yo self! Nothing embodies that more than a stay at the Inn at the Presidio. This swank hotel has great rooms, some even have fireplaces – not just TV screens with burning logs – honest to goodness fireplaces. After a chilly day of hiking you and your lover can get hot in one of these rooms or sit on the patio with a cocktail and a killer view. This will be the decadent touch that throws your V Day into romantic overdrive.
