Citizens, brace yourselves. Tomorrow a storm will hit the Bay Area. I can already hear you East Coasters laughing at us (albeit the sound would be muffled because of your layers of scarves) but this storm will be a big deal for California. We had no rain all January, like a freaking Blind Melon song, and we're overdue. It's predicted that we'll see a downpour of rain starting tomorrow and continuing through the weekend.
If you've read any coverage of this storm you know it's being referred to as a "Pineapple Express." Furthermore, if you follow your stoner friends on Facebook you'll know this is also the name of a 2008 Seth Rogan movie (those same friends will share with you the virtues of adding hot Cheetos). Below are some facts about both Pineapple Expresses and it's up to you to decide whether they refer to the storm or the stoner flick. (Thank god this storm isn't grossly overhyped or we'd have to call it The Interview).
"The word fuck and its derivatives are used 180 times"
Technically this one refers to the movie, BUT we guarantee you can rack up a similar count when trying to find a seat on Muni in the rain or while getting whacked in the face by someone's umbrella.
"This shit's from Hawaii."
Storm! This shit is from Hawaii. Heavy precipitation from water around the Hawaiian Islands flows over to us and results in a downpour of warm rain. This means there won't be a ton of snow coming with this storm because the water will be too balmy. However sometimes a Pineapple Express can cause major snow melt and lead to flooding, so watch out.
"It makes you want to sit inside and smoke pot."
Both.
"It's only like one to three inches."
Storm! The forecast says we should see around that much rain from Thursday through Sunday. Though really this could also refer to that time James Franco stuck his thumb out the front of his pants and pretended it was his wiener.
"There's gonna be a sequel."
Neither the film or the storm. Next week will be sunny and normal. Either way, Judd Apatow is disappointed.
