What a terrible week for San Francisco, as the city saw three fires that displaced residents in the Mission, the Tenderloin, and the Western Addition. There are now various ways you can help and we have them all listed here.
The Mission four-alarm fire which left 67 people without places to call home, has various fundraisers for those affected. We wrote last week about how to initially help, but efforts have ramped up since then. There’s still a general GoFundMe page that has raised over $100,000 and a fundraiser on Saturday at Doc’s Clock helped raise $8,000 — to which Google added $16,000, bringing the total to $24,000.
However, there’s still a lot of help needed and Mission Local has amassed a huge list of where to donate to. You can still give soap, shampoo, and other personal care items at Doc’s Clock, Double Dutch, and L’s Caffe. However, many people have taken to GoFundMe to raise money for their families and living expenses, and to help cover the funeral expenses of Mauricio Orelleno, who passed away due to the fire. There’s also a clothing drive today at Double Dutch until 6 p.m., but if you can’t make that, the Salvation Army is still collecting clothing and any other goods you’d like to donate at 1156 Valencia Street.
As for the four-alarm Western Addition fire on Saturday, The Alamo Square Neighborhood Association (ASNA) has set up both a Paypal and GoFundMe site to help those affected. Twenty-five people no longer have homes and any amount will help. You can also give to the Red Cross here, the designated site to donate to currently.
There’s no official fundraising page or site for the fire in The Tenderloin, or the Hyde Fire as it's being known, which left 18 people without a home. Once again, all donations are accepted through the Red Cross and the Salvation Army.
Currently, there's no official word as to what caused each of these fires and they are still being investigated. As for the residents and businesses affected, the next step is finding affordable housing and retail spaces. Do your part today and find a way to help.
