Wednesday’s devastating fire in the Mission has destroyed the commissary kitchen and production bakery of nearby Wise Sons Deli. Wise Sons owners Evan Bloom and Leo Beckerman detailed their plans for an imminent new Wise Sons Bagel business, which would include small locations throughout the city, to Inside Scoop SF. Bloom had even contacted me just hours before the fire on Wednesday to set up a tasting of some of the first bagels on Thursday. As a connoisseur of their baked goods, I know they were going to be right.
Bloom and Beckerman find out today if their new bagel machine survived the fire but have already discovered that almost everything they had in the commissary kitchen was not salvageable. Insurance will hopefully help them get on their feet eventually. But in the meantime, your support of their 24th Street delicatessen and their outpost in the Jewish Contemporary Museum will help Wise Sons tremendously to maintain and keep their staff employed and business as close to usual as possible while they find alternate places to cook and bake.
