Here's How You Can Help Those Affected By The Mission Fire

A four-alarm fire rang through the Mission yesterday, killing one and injuring six, while displacing about 40 people. It began at 22nd and Mission Streets early Wednesday evening and wasn’t contained until about 11:30 p.m. last night. A few residents were rescued from fire escapes as the fire grew and those hospitalized were taken in due to smoke inhalation and burns. It’ll most likely be a few days until residents know how the fire started, and the next step right now is helping those who no longer have a home.

If you want to help, there’s a GoFundMe page already set up to help the families who have lost everything in the fire. The page, created by Zack Crockett last night, has already raised over $3,000, just shy of its $4,000 goal, but any more money donated would help. Those who were displaced are currently located at the temporary shelter set up by the Red Cross at City College. Currently, the only suggestion from the Red Cross is to donate to local neighborhood organizations.

Families and individuals weren’t the only ones displaced, either — local news organization Mission Local’s office was located on the second floor of the building. No one from the organization is hurt, but there’s most likely smoke and water damage to their electronics. And Wise Sons Deli's bakery and production facility was also in that building, although the owners are still assessing the damage
