Not Content to Let the Cats Have Everything, Dogs Getting Their Own Cafe Now Too

Cats get all the social media love and attention from the world. First, Grumpy Cat gets a movie deal and now, cat cafés have become the latest trend — but they don't have the hold on that last trend for long. Canine-lovers are finally having their say, with two ambitious people hoping to raise enough money to bring America’s first dog café to Los Angeles.

In a campaign on Indiegogo, The Dog Café outlines its goal to raise $200,000 to renovate a space and hire full-time staffers. And since the funds are being crowdsourced, donations come with perks, like $8 gets you a pre-paid ticket to hang with the animals and a medium drink.

And to keep things clean and healthy, the cafe would function with two zones: one where humans and dogs can mingle and another that exists solely for people. The pups would come from shelters, with the hopes that the playful environment will make it more likely that they'll be adopted. And if you only wanted a quick drink, the coffee will be supplied by Grounds and Hounds Coffee Co., a company that donates 20% of its proceeds to local Southern California rescue partners, so you're still helping out.

This is different from other dog cafés in Korea, where the animals come from puppy-mills. Sarah Wolfgang, the founder of the café who's familiar with the Korean ones, hopes to find homes for at least 104 dogs in the first year of opening.

So far, the campaign has raised over $6,000 of its $20,000 goal, which is great because, well, I know and you should too, that dogs are just infinitely better than cats.
