One thousand restaurant workers from several restaurants located inside San Francisco International Airport have been on strike since yesterday. The 48-hour strike continues today, and union officials behind the strike are telling travelers flying out of SFO to "eat b4 u fly" or bring their own food to support the strikers. Workers explain that they're on strike because of low wages, slashed health care, and low job security provided by their employers.
Eater SF listed the 37 out of 58 restaurants inside SFO that will be affected by the strike, which basically comprises all the places you'd want to eat at when at the airport. Concession stands and other retail locations will still be selling food, and according to SFO officials, 80% of restaurants at the airport are open. A friend who is currently at SFO this morning corroborated this information, saying that all the restaurants in Terminal 1 are currently open.
Still, strikers are already picketing outside; Unite Here Local 2 tweeted a photo of picketers at sunrise this morning. The official picketing will take place today at 1-3 p.m. at the Departures Level on Terminal 2.
