SOMA resident and Metromile iOS developer, Dan Ha, went missing last Friday. Since his disappearance his friends and family have organized a “Find Dan Ha” search party group in hopes to spread the word about the missing East Coast native. The 26-year old Asian male is 6’1”, 210lbs. with black hair and brown eyes. Ha’s roommate, Dominique Chainee, last saw him leaving the apartment in a hurry, wearing a red hoodie. Ha last used his cell phone near 2nd St. and Brannan.
“The day of his disappearance I was getting ready to leave the house, he was in his room for the entire duration. He was very quiet. I did not see him until he briskly walked through the door with a hooded sweatshirt. It was odd to me that he took no time to do his hair, check his clothing or appearance, as he was pretty meticulous about these types of things,” writes Chainee.
According to SFWeekly, Ha called in sick with a headache on Thursday at 10 a.m., and told his boss Friday morning he’d be working from home. Salina Truong, friend and Stanford colleague, told me Ha made an appointment with his doctor for Friday, but never showed up for the appointment. He’s also known to have dizzy spells where he gets lightheaded and has difficulty speaking.
While friends describe Ha as a very kind, friendly, quiet person, some noted he has been battling some personal issues lately and has seemed a bit distracted.
“He is generally quiet and keeps to himself although the past two weeks he was extra quiet. He would walk past me and not even notice me. Stuff like that. I didn't think too much of it at the time, perhaps that he had a lot on his mind,” writes Chainee.
Today’s search party will begin at 3 p.m. in the parking lot across his apartment at 530 Brannan. The group’s organizer, Steve Liu, will be there with postcards and flyers. A second group will comb the area at 6:30 p.m. The group plans to continue the search efforts into the late evening, as well as tomorrow.
"It’s so strange that he just disappeared, so it’s really good that everyone is on the look out for him,” says Liu.
Ha’s friends are also seeking donations to help his parents and brother stay in the area until he’s found. Ha’s brother is currently flying in from New York, while his parents are driving from Canada. His loved ones hope to hear from him soon.
