Last week, North Oakland's 1-2-3-4 GO! Records made an exciting announcement: they have the chance to grow their cozy punk record shop/all-ages show space by taking over the space next door. This new area would allow them to store overflow inventory, but also give customers extra incentives to visit, like an expanded book/zine section, turntables, and more. But here's the catch, 1-2-3-4 GO! has to commit to the space by February 1, or else the offer is off the table. And because it's a small independent business, it doesn't have the funds ready to make this happen. That's where you step in.
Why should you care? If you're a fan of independently made, produced, and distributed punk and rock music, you probably know about 1-2-3-4 GO! It's a tiny store, but it carries a huge selection of records, especially by local bands – both the latest darlings and the totally unknowns. It's also one of the few remaining all-ages venues in the Bay Area. Remember how awesome it was to be 18 and being really excited about going to shows and knowing about bands? 1-2-3-4 GO! has hosted live performances from an impressive roster of acts, including Ty Segall's Fuzz, Nik Turner from Hawkwind, Nobunny, and King Tuff. Let's make sure kids (and adults too) can still experience these bands in an intimate space.
You can help by donating to 1-2-3-4 GO!'s Indiegogo campaign. They still need to raise about $13k in 30 days. If they make their goal (and you donate $50 or more), you can celebrate with them at their grand re-opening party/sixth anniversary party in March.
