Living in the Bay Area is expensive... even if you're wedged into a dorm. With information pulled from the National Center for Education Statistics, the site eCollegeFinder has mapped the "Most Expensive College Dorms in Each State." And just as you'd expect, the Bay Area "won" California.
But sorry Stanford, this is one accolade you can't have (and probably don't want). Coming in at number three nationwide with room and board at $15,482 is The University of California, Berkeley. Number one was, quite fittingly, the New York School of Interior Design (is it the décor that jacks up the price, or the New York?)
Anyway, here's the map:
Living in the ivory tower at Cal isn't so different than living in the Bay Area proper, it would seem: the price is steep and the space is, according to Berkeley friends, limited. A look at some of Berkeley's housing options and amenities holds further info on dorm life, but basically just cites the college usuals: twin beds, closets, and mirrors. So, Bears, where's the extra cost coming from? Is all the gold on campus.... real?
