Vegan food has come a long way in the last 10 years. No longer relegated to ordering the one item on the menu that doesn't contain animal products – the perfunctory tofu scramble, maybe a portobello mushroom burger, or in some cases, just the side salad on a menu – vegans, especially those living in the Bay Area, can rejoice that there are way more menu options and entirely vegan food establishments that cater to their dietary needs and their political beliefs, while also making amazingly creative foods that don't skimp of taste. And now, there's a San Francisco Vegan Beer and Food Festival coming to town.

Tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. SoMA StrEat Food Park will host the first ever fest of its kind, featuring sweet and savory eats and craft beers and ciders that are sustainably made and entirely animal friendly. From 11 a.m.–3 p.m., the focus will be brunch. From 3–9 p.m., it'll be more dinner-y types of food. During both segments, beer will be involved, although of course, you have to be 21+ to partake in the suds. There'll also be take-home foods, vegan-friendly crafts and wares, and live music.

Vendors who'll be at the San Francisco Vegan Beer and Food Festival include:

Hella Vegan Eats, No Worries, Southern Fried Vegan, Lil Burma, Dusty Buns Bistro Firetrail Pizza, Jeannie's Jams, Timeless Coffee Roastery and Bakery, Floating Lettuce, Rhizocali Tempeh, Raw Daddy's Fun Cone Food, Mollie Rose Baking Company, Life Foods Inc., Republic of V, and Astronaut Cafe.

And since vegans are usually animal lovers, it's extra good news that a portion of proceeds from the event will benefit Muttville Senior Dog Rescue (a personal favorite local dog rescue group) and the San Francisco SPCA
