Whether you plan to get dressed up as a sexy something or other, or stay home and hand out (read eat) candy this year on Halloween, you should try a few of these wacky variations of sweet treats – some from your childhood — at top restaurants and bakeries around town through the end of October and beyond.
Pastry chef is Kristin Feuer at Playa Provisions has concocted a Worms and Dirt sundae that will be available on the Dockside's dessert menu. It starts with Trick or Treat ice cream — house made vanilla with Kit Kats, Reese's peanut butter cups, and M&Ms, whip cream with "dirt" chocolate cookie crumbles, hot fudge, gummy worms and gummy brains, and a decorative Halloween pick. If that sounds gross to you, order a mild Ghost cupcake in the classic hi-hat style with maybe a few sprinkles.
Napoleon’s Macarons is creating candy-themed macarons for Halloween in the form of a Snickers macaron bar, a chocolate covered Almond Joy macaron, and a Candy Corn macaron. All three will be available for purchase at their two kiosk locations at the Americana at Brand and Westfield Topanga shopping centers.
Plan Check Sawtelle and Executive Chef Ernesto Uchimura will be offering a Pumpkin & Spice Latte Donut—crullers with spiced sugar, whipped candied pumpkin, cold brew coffee pastry cream, and whipped cream served warm in one of those adorable tiny skillets— now until the end of October.
Bo Nuage, the Parisian-style bakery on Melrose, is offering a new fall flavor of their "nuage" cakes from pumpkin to ginger. They are selling both varieties with two layers of meringue filled with flavored whipped cream, one covered in chocolate flakes, the other without chocolate, which is dairy-free. And, the best part of this treat: each one is less than 200 calories, so have two or three.
