Cat Town Cafe, Oakland's much anticipated cafe and kitty adoption center, has announced that it will open on Saturday, October 25. Located at 2869 Broadway, Cat Town will be the nation's very first cafe of its kind. Taking a cue from Japanese cat cafes, Cat Town will feature felines from the Oakland Animal Services that need homes, or risk being euthanized at the overcrowded shelter. Visitors can walk in to visit, pet, and adopt these adorable kittehs inside the cafe's "Cat Zone" for free (although space is limited and entry depends on capacity). Or for a $10 donation, visitors can guarantee an hour of pure kitty bliss.
The furry guys, of course, are the main attraction here, but the cafe will also feature locally-sourced food and drinks by Authentic Bagel Co., Shades of Sugar, S+M Vegan, Bicycle Coffee Company, and Kitchener Collective. Since it's a cat cafe, they'll also serve catnip tea, that's palatable for both people and cats. Or people who think they're cats.
Cat Town Cafe will be open Wednesday to Sunday; the cafe's hours will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., while the Cat Zone will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
