SF Business Offering Awesome Acts of Kindness

Earlier this week, a Reddit user posted a picture of a sign they found in a Portola dry cleaners window advertising free dry cleaning for people who are unemployed. Redditor KCFS2234, who created the post, added that the sign made them “proud of the city I call home.” As commenters pointed out, this act of kindness isn’t unique to SF and similar deals have been circulating worldwide – as close as Southern California and as far away as Toronto.

Beyond dry cleaners, there are several groups in the city offering services to help get the unemployed back on their feet and into the workforce. Lifeline is a telephone provider that gives low income residents reduced-rate phone plans. The Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center is a small business incubator for low income San Franciscans that has been around for 30 years. The Women’s Building in the Mission offers job counseling sessions in several languages. San Franciscans are extremely invested in revitalizing the workforce and helping those in need.

Perhaps there’s a correlation between these kinds of services and the decline in unemployment on a national and city level. Last month USA Today reported a slight dip in the unemployment rate in the U.S., and the San Francisco Chronicle reported in May that the city’s unemployment rate was as low as it’s been since 2008.

Further investigation proves that the mystery dry cleaner is actually Miraloma Cleaners on Portola drive. While the business owners could not be reached for comment, reviewers on their Yelp page sing their praises. "I will never go anywhere else! Best service I have EVER experienced at local cleaners!" says one. Another adds "Thanks Miraloma Cleaners for making me look good at my meeting!"

Though one user says it best: "I LOVE Miraloma Cleaners!  Talk about "service with a smile!"
