Would You Pay $1350 to live in a 174-Sq Ft Apartment?

Last week SocketSite reported that a new housing development called "The Karl" being built along Octavia Boulevard in Hayes Valley will house 28 174-sq. ft. residential suites (six more will be built at 273-sq. ft. for disabled residents), along with four "micro retail spaces" on the bottom floor.

Somehow these tiny living spaces will cram a "full bathroom, kitchenette, wardrobe, 'flex table,' and flip-down double bed, not to mention Juliet balconies and planters for a bit of green." I guess San Francisco will see the return of the Murphy bed, which apparently was invented in the city in the early 1900s by a guy living in a one-room apartment who was trying to woo an opera singer into his place without seeming like a total skeez.

If residents of this new "CoLiving" building start to feel claustrophobic, the Karl will also provide shared living, dining, and kitchen areas on the top floor, and a community garden on the roof. The price to live in one of these units will be around $1350 a month.

Would you live in one of these micro apartments? And how does Karl the Fog feel about sharing his name with this building?!?
