If you’re a human – or dog – interested in skateboarding, I have some good news for you.
A new skate/dog park will soon be opening along Valencia street, right under the 101 freeway ramp. The project is being billed as a SOMA park, but that area is definitely more Mission – especially since it’s located right next to Zeitgeist.
The hybrid park, which is set to open next month (there’s no specific July date announced), will provide 17,000 sq feet for skaters and 28,000 sq feet for dogs, in addition to being a parking lot. We can’t think of a better way to repurpose the usually mundane and sometimes creepy land under freeway underpasses. Chalk this up as another achievement for San Francisco's constant talent for creating something out of nothing when it come to public spaces.
